Full Stack Software Engineer

Dextrous full stack software engineers develop software for interfacing between humans and robots. We will consider both junior-level and senior-level candidates.

Who we’re looking for:

  • You are proficient at UX design
  • You thrive in and contribute to a culture of software engineering best practices
  • You pass your knowledge on to others in your team, and you spend time on your craft (maybe you’re a Git wiz, you write tools to speed common tasks, or you’ve done some devops to speed overall development throughput)

Responsibilities will include:

  • Collaborating with our hardware and software teams to build a the highest quality robotic system product possible

Necessary qualifications:

  • Significant industry experience with a strong track record of software contributions

Electrical Engineer

Dextrous electrical engineers continue development of new robotic platforms. Help us build cutting-edge robots and positively impact humankind.

Who we’re looking for:

  • You are capable of designing electrical systems, predominantly for robotics and mechatronics projects.
  • You have a deep knowledge of the physics of power electronic systems and electronic communication systems.
  • You are capable of designing, building, and maintaining complex electrical systems (e.g., electric vehicle or robot), and can select and purchase the components that comprise these systems.
  • You can prototype software to communicate with electronics using C or C++.
  • You are experienced at debugging serial and real time protocol communication systems (e.g., EtherCAT, Ethernet, CAN, I2C, BISS).
  • You can deliver reliable, manufacturable, and cost effective designs and products.
  • You can methodically document requirements, designs, assembly, and test procedures and results.
  • You are driven and motivated by high-impact engineering applications that will revolutionize society.
  • You want to work for a company that is driven to rapidly field real robots.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Experience making conceptual and final designs using CAD tools.
  • Proficiency in designing, building, and testing hardware and firmware systems.
  • Experience designing robotic electronic systems including actuators and sensors.
  • Can evaluate, design and conduct research for electromechanical systems and products by applying principles of power electronics, digital signal processing, computer engineering, and electromagnetics.
  • Proven communication and presentation skills with technical and non-technical audiences.

  • PE Certification.

Controls Engineer

Dextrous controls engineers develop the high-level behaviors and low level control code that give our robots dexterity. We are hiring both junior- and senior-level controls engineers.

  • You possess expert knowledge of robot kinematics, robot dynamics, numerical linear algebra, and optimization
  • You are experienced at closing the loop between perception and control for the purpose of manipulation (or legged locomotion)

  • You are driven and motivated by high-impact engineering applications that have the potential to revolutionize society

Responsibilities will include:

  • Designing high-level behaviors to manipulate various objects
  • Working with Dextrous' perception team to servo our robots for precision manipulation
  • Designing and implementing low-level algorithms for transforming behavior outputs into actuator (e.g., torque) commands
  • Designing, testing, and supporting your software from simulation to prototypes to a scaled fleet
  • Following software practices that produce maintainable code, including automated testing, continuous integration, and rigorous code review

Necessary qualifications:

  • You have a PhD, MS, or equivalent industry experience
  • You are a talented software developer, ideally with experience in C++ and experience analyzing and debugging robotic control algorithms
  • You have a strong track record in inventing and deploying innovative planning and control algorithms to robotic systems in real-world environments
  • You have expertise in relevant technical areas like optimal control, adaptive control, reinforcement learning, state estimation, and system identification
  • You are passionate about deploying a large fleet of robots that will operate around people in the real world
  • You enjoy bridging the gap between the theoretical (desired actuator forces) and the actual (dealing with backlash, back EMF, cogging, reflected inertia)

Perception Engineer

Dextrous Perception Engineers develop and deploy the visual perception components for our high-speed robotic manipulation system. We’re looking for an exceptionally talented engineer to bring our perception stack from a proof-of-concept to a high quality production standard while also building upon the existing technology.

Who we’re looking for:

  • You are a talented software developer with exceptional Python and C++ skills
  • You have considerable experience in projects using classical computer vision and contemporary deep learning based approaches. Topics include: object detection, pose estimation, tracking, synthetic data generation, image processing, point cloud processing, camera calibration
  • You have experience building user interfaces
  • You have significant experience with procedural 3D modeling and photorealistic rendering
  • You have a PhD, MS, or equivalent industry experience to support the points above
  • You have robotics-specific experience in perception and related technical areas like state estimation, object tracking, and sensor fusion
  • You are passionate about your work with a thirst for knowledge. You have a desire to solve some of the toughest problems in robotics perception and the drive to follow through

Responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and implementing algorithms for detection, tracking and characterization of objects for robotic manipulation from visual sensor data
  • Building the necessary software/data infrastructure for supporting your research and development
  • Collaborating with our hardware team to configure our sensors. This will involve getting hands-on with hardware
  • Designing, testing, and supporting your software from simulation to prototypes to a scaled fleet
  • Following software practices that produce maintainable code, including automated testing, continuous integration, and rigorous code review

Necessary qualifications:

  • You are a talented software developer with exceptional Python and C++ skills
